Ganesha the Personal Computer
Here's why I think Ganesha is a symbol
A personification of a Computer
Ganesha is the God of Knowledge and Wisdom
The Elephant head suggests an elephantine memory
It was created when Lord Siva was denied access and in anger he hacked it and later to appease Parvati replaced it with a larger head (memory).
Ganesha is frequently shown as sitting in Goddess Parvati's lap - suggesting he's a laptop computer.
Lord Siva bestowed it with a boon that people would worship Ganesha and invoke him before starting any venture
The trunk suggests a broadband connection
The large ears suggest speakers
The large stomach that contains infinite universes held together by the snake which threads around the belly suggests infinite files stored securely (the snake preventing access) in a FAT format.
The noose in the first hand is in fact a cable suggesting Wireless Access
The Axe in the second hand is not an axe its a quill maybe a pen drive
The Abhaya hastam suggests a palm pilot or a digital keyboard
The fourth hand has a modaka or sweet which is his power source of energy
The mouse is a mouse
He is known as Gananayaka - "the lord of the spirits" and his feet one on the ground one above it suggests the computer like Ganesha participates in both material as well as ethereal worlds.
Ganesha therefore depicts virtual reality.
Ganesha challenges Vyasa that he would be his scribe only if Vyasa continously dictates the Mahabharata in verse form to him - suggesting that there was a screensaver and automatic power off setting.
Vyasa in turn agrees provided Ganesha understand every word and concept before writing it down - suggesting that every now that Ganesha like a computer has to interpret or compile the verses dictated by Vyasa.
There is this story of when Lord Siva asked Ganesha and Kartikeya to circumnavigate the world and Karthikeya took off on his peacock whereas Ganesha just went around his parents
What does this suggest?
That sitting at the feet of his parents the world wide web could be navigated.
